Does Colloquy require an internet connection?
No. After the one-time AI model download (~216 MB), Colloquy works completely offline. Recording, transcription, speaker labelling, and AI summaries all run on your iPhone.
Are my recordings really private?
Yes. Every recording is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before being written to disk. The encryption key is generated on first launch and stored in your iOS Keychain — we have no servers and cannot access it. Audio, transcripts, and summaries never leave your device.
What can I do with the free version?
The free version includes up to 5 recordings, each up to 60 minutes long, with full features: high-quality 48 kHz recording, on-device transcription, two-person speaker labelling, AI summary, and export to TXT / Markdown / RTF / SRT / PDF.

Which languages does transcription support?
Colloquy supports 50+ languages via Whisper, including English, Mandarin (Simplified & Traditional), Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, and more. You can also enable auto-detect mode to handle multilingual recordings.
Can it identify different speakers?
For two-person recordings — interviews, sessions, consultations — yes. Colloquy labels each speaker (Speaker A, Speaker B) and you can rename them to real names in the transcript view. For recordings with three or more people it produces the transcript without speaker labels: automatic labelling is not accurate enough with more voices, and a wrong attribution is more misleading than none.
Does it work on iPad?
Yes. Colloquy is a Universal app that runs on iPhone (iOS 17+) and iPad (iPadOS 17+). All features work on both. The iPad version uses the larger screen for side-by-side audio playback and transcript editing.
